  • Queen's River Loop Campout, October 2008

  • In October, 2008, Troop 112 went to a camping ground in Queen’s River Loop, which is north of Idaho City. The group set up camp Friday afternoon, then played and explored before and after dinner. Some boys took a short hike up a steep hill nearby, but had to turn around because they could not see. They were determined to come back the next day to reach the top of the hill.

The next morning, the troop woke up, had breakfast, and then the Scouts went on a hike while the adults stayed back at camp. After hiking for an hour or two, the group returned to camp and had lunch. After that, some boys went on another hike to the hill they had attempted to climb Friday evening, and everyone else stayed at camp to play or sleep. After reaching the summit of the hill, the hikers returned to camp and joined in playing until dinner. After dinner, the Scouts created a home-made sauna to, well, for the fun of it, actually. Trust me; you haven’t lived until you have experienced one of these saunas! Once they were done cooking themselves, everyone went to bed.

Sunday morning, the troop had breakfast, then had a short church service done by the chaplain’s aide. After that, they tore down camp and headed home. It was a great campout. I hope the troop goes back there some time soon!
